As a leading university town, with good transport links to London, Hatfield in Hertfordshire is in demand as a place to do business. If your firm is based here or moving to the area and you need to arrange an office refurbishment, Thames Contracts, in nearby north London, can give you a free initial quote and detailed advice on how to remodel your workspace.
Offices require refurbishment for several reasons. These include rebranding, changing business focus and priorities, the need to expand some departments and contract others, improve outdated facilities, provide more up-to-date technology, up-date the look of an organisation, and to provide greater storage facilities.
We will visit your office premises and talk over your requirements with you, discussing in detail what you are hoping to achieve for your business, now and in the future. The next step is to provide 3D computer-generated designs, so you can see at first-hand what the refurbishment will look like. Once the designs are approved, we will project manage the whole refurbishment, taking your business priorities on board. We will work around you, sticking to a set timetable and budget, with the minimum of disruption to your operation.
A Look at Hatfield
Hatfield has a fast-expanding population of 40,000. Although it has a long history, dating back to Anglo-Saxon times, it saw the biggest population growth after the Second World War with the building of the de Havilland aircraft factory, (the origin of famous names in British Aviation such as the Mosquito and Trident). De Havilland, later known as British Aerospace, became one of the largest employers in the region, and as the demand for new housing increased, Hatfield was declared as ‘new town’, offering housing and employment outside London.
It is an appealing place to live, offering the combination of living within Hertfordshire, a quieter environment with several parks and green spaces, yet still being within easy reach of the centre of London. Transport links are excellent, as it is within easy reach of the A1 and M25 to London, and journeys to London take just over 20 minutes by train. For travel further afield, the town lies close to London Luton Airport, which is just 14 miles away, and within easy reach of Heathrow and Gatwick Airports. The town also lies close to Welwyn Garden City, a designated new town and one of only two garden cities in England.
In addition, Hatfield benefits from a number of local landmarks. The prime one is Hatfield House, which is a major tourist attraction. It was here that Elizabeth Tudor was informed of the death of her half-sister, Mary, and she held her first council in the ‘Old Palace’ of Hatfield after she was crowned Queen. It is also home to the Art and Design Gallery and Mill Green Museum and Watermill.
Education and Employment
The University of Hertfordshire is the area’s leading employer, with more than 2,700 staff, and 26,500 students, including many from abroad. It is a leading university in history and research and has a prominent past training aerospace engineers. In 2010, the Times Higher Education declared it the ‘Entrepreneurial University of the Year’.
In addition, the university’s Biopark, a leading research and development centre, is home to more than 25 organisations, including health technology, chemistry laboratories and biopharmaceutical companies. This includes CN Bio Innovations, part of Hong Kong based CN Innovations, and hVIVO, a UK sciences company.
In 2003, the university opened a second campus on the former Hatfield Aerodrome/British Aerospace site, which has seen major redevelopment. As well as a sports village, it is also home to Hatfield Business Park, which has 3.5 million sq ft of occupied business space. Among the major businesses based at the site are phone company EE and Ocado’s head offices. A new residential area is also being built nearby, so homes and businesses are growing together.
